Q1 Is homecare a realistic option for me?
For many people homecare is the ideal choice; a level of support tailored to particular requirements, preserving independence and quality of life among familiar things and friends. It is also cheaper than residential care.
Homecare is not for you if you have complex nursing needs, which can't be well met in a home setting. In cases of advanced dementia people tend to crave the company of others. In which case a
residential home may be more suitable.

Q2 Finding a reliable cleaner is difficult enough, should I trust homecare to be reliable?
Our homecare service is reliable, however we are running a human service not a railway. This means that clients need more help some mornings so your support worker may be running late. Road works and traffic at busy times can play havoc with tight schedules. Also our support workers are sometimes sick or their dependents are sick. Patience and dialogue are critical in any relationship, including that between TerraBlu, support workers and clients. We will always prioritise personal care calls over cleaning calls. In all cases we will attempt to reschedule rather than cancel calls. We are not perfect, but we hope we get the big things right.

Q3 I think I need 24 hour care from a trained nurse.
Many people, after a recent illness, may think that they need 24-hour nursing care at home. This is rarely the case, and a mix of personal care from one of our support workers co-ordinated with visits from your local district nursing service delivers the best mix of support.

Q4 How long does it take for my care to start?
Care can be put in within a few days of receiving a call. A care assessment has to be completed, a contract signed or a Service Delivery Order issued, if a social services client. An available staff member then has to be rostered to carry out your care call.

Q5 How much does homecare cost?
If you have savings and investments of less than £22,250 you may be eligible for financial support towards the cost of your homecare, and should contact your local Social Services. If you are responsible for paying for the cost of your care, our charges start from an all inclusive charge of £10.87 for a half hour call.

Q6 Can I get help paying for the cost of my care?
Yes, if you have savings and investments assessed at less than £22,250. The value of your home is not taken into account in an assessment for homecare. You should contact your local social services department for a financial assessment if you think that you meet these criteria.

Q7 Do your support workers do cleaning and other domestic tasks such as laundry or gardening?
Our support workers will carry out a range of light domestic and cleaning tasks. Specialist laundry tasks such as dealing with heavy soiling would be dealt with by specialist contractors. We can organize gardening services via a contractor that we have used in the past.

Q8 Are all your support workers CRB checked?
Yes. All staff on joining are checked against the Protection of Vulnerable Adults list. Then staff go on to be screened at CRB Enhanced level, which includes a check against the relevant POCA data.

Q9 How do I get in touch with Social Services?
Via your GP or your local council offices.

Q10 What makes TerraBlu different?
The combination of traditional service recognised by our clients and CSCI, who rated us 'excellent'; together with the use of modern technology ensuring visits happen when requested.
