Anyone with savings or investments greater than £22,250 is not entitled to any financial support from the Local Authority towards the cost of homecare. Social Services Care Managers may provide information on local homecare, enabling anyone in need to make a private arrangement.
Anyone with savings or investments less than £22,250, assessed as needing support in their own home - according to the relevant Local Authority guidance - will be provided with an assessment form from Social Services.
Anyone with less than £22,250 and more than £13,000 in savings or investments may be asked to contribute to Social Services towards the cost of care.
The value of your home is not taken into account in an assessment for domiciliary care. Social Services will carry out an assessment of needs and determine the level of support required and how much they are prepared to fund. The client may then choose to receive this financial support as a monthly sum to spend on their choice of package of care. The client is accountable to Social Services in demonstrating that the money has been spent appropriately. TerraBlu has a number of clients on this 'direct payments' system.
Alternatively, the client can have Social Services arrange and pay for care, charging you directly for any due contribution. Social Services will assign a care manager who will commission care from the Approved Provider in your area.
